Abstract

ABSTRACTIn this conceptual article submitted to the Journal of Management Studies Conference 2026, we theorize the problem of how to make sense of competing truth claims surrounding AI, in relation to management and society. We do so by drawing on perspectives from hermeneutics and social epistemology, which provide a framework for understanding how knowledge about AI is created, shared, and contested, where meaning and truth are mediated through language, and shaped by social, historical and organizational contexts and perspectives.
